Want to join the team?
If you wish to be a part of the team we are welcome to all as long as you are a student at Aalborg University. We meet at our workshop (at Fibigerstræde 14) on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 17:00.
You are always welcome to show up and if you have any questions regarding becoming a member of the team please feel free to write us a message on Instagram, Facebook, or the contact form.
The team is fully student driving, which means students design and manufacture the cars where mechanical, electrical, energy, and software engineering plays a big role. But the team also has to do budgetting, marketing, project management, and more. Students from all studies are therefore encouraged to join the team.
Below, you can meet some of our former members and see what they are doing today.
Meet Esben
Esben Breum Andersen is a former member of AAU Racing, who worked on the design and production of the G9 car. Esben studied manufacturing technology on AAU and during his study participated in the AAU Racing team. During the time, he optimized the plenum for the engine, unlocking additional horsepower. Since graduating from his Master's, he has first worked as a graduate engineer on the Redbull Racing Formula 1 team, being part of designing their first in-house engine. Afterwards, he has transitioned to Terma Aeronautics as a Materials and Processes Engineer. Esben explains about being part of AAU Racing:
"The great thing about a Formula Student team is that you get to be the design engineer, the mechanic who puts it on the car, and the one who then has to explain why it broke down when it broke down"

To tell the story of the formula student competition and how it enables students to get experience with real world problems, possibly getting the chance to work in Formula 1, we did a reportage in collaboration with Viaplay. It is called "Drømmen om F1: Fra Formula Student til Red Bull". It can currently be watched on Viaplay, here. We go through Esbens story on the AAU Racing team and his experience of being part of a championship winning Formula 1 team.
We have also been in the Viaplay studio twice as part of the build-up to two F1 races. The first time featuring Esben and telling his story again can be seen here, and the second time focusing on the team first compitition with an electric car, FSG2025, can be seen here.
Meet Frederik
Frederik Elmstrøm is a former member of AAU Racing, who worked on the G9 and G10 cars and studied Design of Mechanical Systems during his study at AAU. Frederik was techlead and head of chassis and suspension during the G9 design and manufacturing. Since graduating, he has been working as a Development Engineer at Rosenstand Engineering working on large steel structures and lifting equipment for the wind industry.
In his spare time, he is a race/performance engineer at Birk Motorsport running 3 cars in the danish SuperGT championship. Frederik directly uses his knowledge gained from running cars at AAU Racing for data-driven improvements of the SuperGT cars and drivers.
About his time at AAU Racing, Frederik explains:
"First of all, it is an amazing community of like-minded people that work together against a common goal. AAU Racing definitely made me smarter and formed many great relationships. The annual trips to compitition during the summer was definitely the highlight of the year and it is an experience you never forget. The competition is a mix of many emotions; anxiety about passing scrutineering, questions of whether the car will survive the trials and tribulations, the pressure of performing well during competition and not least the great atmosphere of the camp-site parties during evening (and night for some)."

Meet Jonas
Jonas Busk is a former member of AAU Racing, who designed and build the G9 and G10 cars and studied Signal Processing during his time at AAU. Jonas was departmentlead for the electronics department at AAU Racing, designing and producing the G9 electrical systems, as well as part of the G10 low-voltage system. Since graduating, he has been working for Gomspace as a signal processing software engineering developing software for communication systems with a focus on software defined radios. This includes satellite to plane communication.
Jonas explains about being part of AAU Racing:
"AAU Racing has given me strong insight into how effective and coordinated collaboration across engineering departments creates strong results."
